Application of brake motor in vertical field

Stepper motor is a kind of induction motor, its structure can be divided into reactive stepper motor, permanent magnet stepper motor and hybrid stepper motor and other types. So how is the stepper motor brake system implemented? The stepper motor itself has a holding moment, and the holding moment of the motor can be locked in the case of power, that is, it is equivalent to the brake (holding brake). In the vertical operation mechanism, there is a mechanism power failure and the driver loses the locking force, so the brake must be considered to avoid the mechanism due to the loss of the driver lock force and direct fall caused by damage. The traditional control brake needs to be externally connected to 12~24VDC. When the stepper motor is powered off, the brake starts instantly, which plays the role of fixing the motor shaft to solve the problem that the motor can still maintain a locked state when the stepper motor is powered off. For all brakes, an external DC24V voltage must be connected, and the braking force needs to be assisted by a compression spring or a permanent magnet to form an air gap in an electromagnetic manner, which causes the heavy object to slow down or limit its stay in motion for a short time.

The traditional motor brake control mode (as shown below) is generally for the PLC control relay to supply power to the brake, the device is disconnected from the brake power, the device is powered on the brake power, but due to the lag of the stepper motor driver enable, when powered on, the brake power is best to delay the power, otherwise it will fall a distance.

The traditional control mode has the following disadvantages in use:

1. The brake is hot, generally working for a period of time, the brake temperature can reach more than 90 degrees Celsius. Shorten the brake life, safety risks and so on.

2. Rely on relays, PLC and other external devices, if there is a problem in that link, it is easy to damage the motor or lock! For example, if the relay is damaged under the condition of movement, the brake loses power, resulting in brake damage.

3. The cost is relatively high and the wiring is troublesome.
